There’s been a single hawfinch (kjernebiter) in the garden for several weeks but yesterday there were five….and it’s all about SIZE…that beak means other birds don’t threaten their position getting the best pickings! The first rays of the sun shone on the bird feeder yesterday!
Two hawfinches (kjernebiter) on the bird feeder yesterday. There was also still a flock of 20 or more bramblings (bjørkefnk) and 9 goldfinches (stillits), the latter still feeding on natural food!
House sparrows (a flock of 25 taking turns on the bird feeder), with brambling and hawfinch (gråspurv, bjørkefink og kjernebiter):
Great spotted woodpecker (flaggspett):
Following up on yesterday’s film, here we see a greenfinch trying to take morcels of seed from a hawfinch (kjernebiter)..I saw this several times today and yesterday…it happens very quickly, but a still picture (below) seems to show the greenfinch’s beak inside the beak of the hawfinch and the greenfinch is pushed away..
