Norrlands Onion

This robust and tasty onion, currently in flower, was found in a few old gardens in Northern Sweden, being grown as an ornamental, hence the name. It is a sterile hybrid between Allium nutans and A. angulosum (a third species may be involved). I tell its story in my book Around the world in 80 plants!
