A pleasant visit today from Angelina Hjelm from a little place called Lillpite (pop. 429 in 2010!) in Norrland in Sweden and a friend, traveller from Brisbane in Australia!
Fjølstadtrøa Museum is a renovated “husmansplass” (the nearest we have in the UK is a croft) and I think the last in Malvik. I was lucky to meet the last husmann Sverre Saugen back in the 1980s, such a friendly soul who walked several miles each way to the shops at Vikhammer…those were better times…

It’s been very dry with frosts for a week and reports were that there wasn’t much in the way of fungi in the woods, but after 1 hour walking there was one small area with a lot of hedgehog fungus, winter chantarelle and chantarelle…
Today’s main job – Apple harvest now safe in the cellar, not bad for two trees which have never had more fertiliser than nature supplies…. :) Mostly the variety Aroma…
Benjamin Bro-Jørgensen, who together with Irja Frydenlund have started an edible perennials nursery in Tingvoll, Norway, was profiled in today’s Adresseavisen (Hjem magazine) in an article “Den evige hagen” (the eternal garden). Wow, Permaculture and perennial vegetables in my local paper! Well done! Apparently, it is also published in Bergenstidende :)
With an even heavier frost threatened, I moved all my Ocas and Ullucos inside….but, until I clear space (seeds drying everywhere) they are blocking the entrance to my house ;)
I grow them on inside and harvest normally for Xmas!
