Common sow-thistle – super weedy food and good globalisation!

Weedy super food, super weedy food or super food weeds? Take your pick. The chances you have this one in your vegetable patch as a weed already.  As I relate in my book Around the World in 80 plants, this weed has really gone global, found from the tropics to the arctic. This is the good type of globalisation, a weed which has become my most important vegetable at this time of year in my garden, inspired by how the Maori manage it in their vegetable gardens for food. They sell it on markets and, through it being an important part of their diet, probably protects them against cancers… It’s Sonchus oleraceus / common sow-thistle / haredylle. Cooked in this stir-fry, it radiates healthiness!
