Accidental companions: a Sherpa onion (Allium wallichii) has set up home in the middle of my greek mountain tea (Sideritis syriaca) with a few self-sowed dandelions for good measure! Allium wallichii moves around with rhizomes…I didn’t plant it here!
Do you give Allium wallichii and Sideritis syriaca any protection during winter? Plants For a Future database mentions for both USDA hardiness zone 7-10 and UK8. (….because if they grow inMalvik they should do fine here too, and I assume I’m in zone 5-6). Thank you!
No, but I think that the Sideritis could be easier to grow with me as it’s a high mountain plant from the Mediterranean countries and may dislike warmth in summer and wet winters. That’s my theory as to why it’s such an unusual herb in western and central Europe!
NB! There are several zone systems in use in Europe.
