This is an over 20 year old spruce stump from a large tree that was growing in an area planted up by the previous owners as an orchard. An aggressive form of honey fungus (honningsopp) attacked the trees including this spruce and killed them one after the other,. I therefore systematically, over several years, dug out all the roots and this big stump so that I could replant in a honeyfungus-free environment. I replanted this area with a diversity of woody shrubs and trees.
