Appearance at Hellens Garden Festival in Much Marcle

Announcement of my appearance at the Hellens Garden Festival in a place with the unlikely name of Much Marcle on 12th June :) Really looking forward to it!!

Apparently, I was introduced to this place when I was a youth, being inspired by Gilbert White’s Natural History of Selbourne as according to the Wikipedia page on the village:

“About three miles north-north west of the village, on the eastern face of Marcle Ridge, a massive landslip, estimated at 60,000 cubic metres, took place over three days starting on 17 February 1575. Named “the Wonder”, it was so large that full-grown trees were carried down the slope onto an adjoining property. In his book The Natural History of Selborne, Gilbert White (1720–93) quotes the words of John Philips who wrote:
“I nor advise, nor reprehend the choice
Of Marcley Hill; the apple nowhere finds
A kinder mould; yet ’tis unsafe to trust
Deceitful ground; who knows but that once more
This mount may journey, and his present site
Forsaken, to thy neighbour’s bounds transfer
Thy goodly plants, affording matter strange
For law debates!”

A good place to have a garden then….disaster doesn’t strike twice etc…

Walled Kitchen Garden Network Forum weekend talks in October

I’m talking on both days at the Walled Kitchen Garden Network Forum weekend at  the National Trust Property Croome Court in Worcestershire, England on 3rd-4th October. See the link for details (it’s open to all!)

What makes me qualified to talk to walled gardeners?  I do have a walled garden you know (where my greenhouse once stood!) :) OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Edible garden tour at the Tromsø arctic-alpine botanic garden

I’ll be in Tromsø on 22nd and 23rd June. On the 22nd at 1800 I’ll lead a tour around the botanical garden :) The focus will of course be on what food we can find amongst the garden’s impressive collections! I’m not sure if you need to be a member to join this tour.
The next day, there will be a course/talk, probably at Holt, also in Tromsø. More later about this.
Books will be for sale at kr. 200!

Walled Kitchen Gardens Network talk in October

I hadn’t planned any more talks this year, but I was tempted and have accepted to give a talk at the Walled Kitchen Gardens Network 2015 Forum  at the Mansion and Kitchen Garden at Croome Court in Worcestershire, UK on Saturday 3rd October!  The participants will be walled kitchen garden gardeners!

I will be among kindred spirits, having my own walled garden (my ex- greenhouse) ;)
