Zanthoxylum alatum planispermum (Winged Prickly Ash) is from the Far East and Himalaya region. One of the sources of chinese pepper (the fruits), the young leaves are also used as a flavouring. Also known as Nepal pepper, they are often in that country mixed with chilis and are essential in pickles and chutneys.
