{"id":9480,"date":"2016-12-29T18:02:29","date_gmt":"2016-12-29T17:02:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.edimentals.com\/blog\/?p=9480"},"modified":"2016-12-29T18:02:29","modified_gmt":"2016-12-29T17:02:29","slug":"end-of-the-year-andes-in-malvik-tuber-harvest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.edimentals.com\/blog\/?p=9480","title":{"rendered":"End of the year Andes in Malvik tuber harvest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As the psychedelic (colour not effect) Andean tubers Oca (<em>Oxalis tuberosa<\/em>), Ulluco (<em>Ullucus tuberosus<\/em>) and Achira (<em>Canna edulis<\/em>) benefit from a longer season than I can give them outside, I grow them in buckets which I bring inside and harvest around Xmas time for a colourful christmas dinner&#8230;so here&#8217;s an album of this year&#8217;s harvest!<\/p>\n<p>I was very surprised by one of the best ulluco harvests here, despite the leaves being mostly frozen off before moving the pots inside and not regrowing&#8230;I don&#8217;t understand&#8230;<\/p>\n<div id='gallery-1' class='gallery galleryid-9480 gallery-columns-3 gallery-size-thumbnail'><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='http:\/\/www.edimentals.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=9482'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"http:\/\/www.edimentals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/P1700194-150x150.jpg\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" aria-describedby=\"gallery-1-9482\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<figcaption class='wp-caption-text gallery-caption' id='gallery-1-9482'>\n\t\t\t\tEach of the groups correspond to one bucket! The yellow tubers at 2 o&#8217;clock are from a bucket grown for two years to see if they would grow any bigger&#8230;otherwise yellow has the smallest tubers. \n\t\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='http:\/\/www.edimentals.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=9484'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"http:\/\/www.edimentals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/P1700201-150x150.jpg\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" aria-describedby=\"gallery-1-9484\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<figcaption class='wp-caption-text gallery-caption' id='gallery-1-9484'>\n\t\t\t\tI&#8217;ve never grown anything like this size of ulluco before, similarly the white with pink dots variety were significantly bigger than normal&#8230;strange as all my Ullucos were severely frosted before I brought them inside and didn&#8217;t regrow inside&#8230;\n\t\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure><figure class='gallery-item'>\n\t\t\t<div class='gallery-icon landscape'>\n\t\t\t\t<a href='http:\/\/www.edimentals.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=9486'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"http:\/\/www.edimentals.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/P1700207-150x150.jpg\" class=\"attachment-thumbnail size-thumbnail\" alt=\"\" aria-describedby=\"gallery-1-9486\" \/><\/a>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<figcaption class='wp-caption-text gallery-caption' id='gallery-1-9486'>\n\t\t\t\tA lot of variation in yield again this year in my ocas, here are 7 groups corresponding to 7 buckets&#8230;the large yellow at bottom right looked very promising but there were only two tubers :( The two groups at bottom left and centre were mixed varieties forced for the leaves last winter and then left to grow on&#8230;
