{"id":6873,"date":"2016-09-18T01:35:47","date_gmt":"2016-09-17T23:35:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.edimentals.com\/blog\/?p=6873"},"modified":"2020-11-30T11:21:57","modified_gmt":"2020-11-30T10:21:57","slug":"edimentals-talk-at-the-royal-botanical-gardens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.edimentals.com\/blog\/?p=6873","title":{"rendered":"Edimentals talk at the Royal Botanical Gardens"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fun day collecting edimentals from the garden&#8217;s collections, making a multi-species salad followed by my talk and walk!<br \/>\nThanks to all who came and to Sabina Knees for helping out!<br \/>\nSome of the plants we collected were: <em>Gunnera manicata<\/em>, <em>Saxifraga stolonifera<\/em>, <em>Hemerocallis spp.<\/em> (daylilies), <em>Hosta<\/em> (leaves and flowers), <em>Allium wallichii<\/em> (two forms), <em>Ligularia fischeri, Allium nutans, Allium schoenoprasum sibiricum<\/em>, Ostrich Fern, <em>Lilium leichtlinii,<\/em> Lime leaves, <em>Cacalia (Parasenecio) delphiniifolia<\/em>, Hops, <em>Aralia cordata<\/em> (Udo), <em>Aralia elata, Angelica gigas<\/em> and <em>Aster macrophylla<\/em>. Flowers of <em>Yucca filamentosa<\/em> were used in the salad!<\/p>\n<p>It was great to have the chance last week in Bergen to harvest and share the <em>Gunnera tinctoria<\/em> (Nalca) leaf stalk&#8230;.the verdict was that it was surprisingly good, sweetly acid flavour (see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edimentals.com\/blog\/?p=6772\">http:\/\/www.edimentals.com\/blog\/?p=6772<\/a>)! In Edinburgh, I was able to taste <em>G. manicata<\/em> for the first time. I&#8217;ve never seen evidence for its use.
