It is found in cool moist forests in Western North America. It&#8217;s name is due to it being covered in thorns! It is closely related to another of my pet edibles, Aralia cordata!<br \/>\nHaving checked with foragers in Alaska and elsewhere on the west coast about how they use Oplopanax horridus, I finally took the plunge tonight and ate a few young buds in tempura tonight!
