A siberian nutcracker disturbing the peace in the woods :)
Craning their heads?
I heard cranes calling from the fields at Kvegjerdet as I started off into the woods, so went to have a look! They hear my phone at the end and turn (crane) their heads!
Siskin on the yellow melancholy thistle
A small sacrifice (in extra weeding) is to let thistles set seed…I can then watch siskins (grønnsisik) feeding only a few metres away! Here on Cirsium erisithales (yellow melancholy thistle)
Narcotits 2018
Spotted flycatcher
Spotted flycatcher (gråfluesnapper) in the garden today!
A scattering of herons
Sitting in the garden working this morning and suddenly a flock of 9 grey herons (hegre) flew past
A flock of herons is sometimes known as a scattering of herons! (alternatively, a siege, or sedge)
Record Oystercatcher flock!
A flock of 68 oystercatchers (tjeld) flew past the house this evening, by far the largest flock recorded in Malvik during autumn (July onwards) :)
Birds love saskatoons too…
The Saskatoons (Amelanchier alnifolia “Thiessen”) ripened early this year and I was too late netting them against the birds….a young fieldfare (gråtrost) was eating the berries yesterday morning, photographed from where I was breakfasting…blue tits (blåmeis) were also joining in the party…
